Barton Grainger

A FAMILY DISPUTE

Barton G Grainger of West Hartlepool sued his son in law Benjamin Braithwaite and the latters daughter Annie Morgan for £3.00, lent to them in 1885.

Plaintiff stated that he had been accustomed to lend Braithwaite sums of money ar various dates. In November 1885 the daughter obtained £3 for him to purchase clothing as she was going into the employment of William Gray at Greatham.

The defence was a total denial of the claim. Mrs Morgan stated that for about 2 weeks she attended upon Mrs Grainger during her illness and up to her death. Upon leaving Mr Grainger gave her £3 for the services which she had rendered.

His Honour entered a verdict for the amount claimed against Braithwaite.
