DEATH OF CAPT. GRANGER

Death of Capt. Granger.

Many readers will regret to hear of the death of Capt. P. Granger, one of the oldest inhabitants of Hartlepool. The deceased had for the last 15 or 16 years been the faithful servant of Messrs Lister Baumann and Co., coal exporters, & c., by whom he was regarded as one of themselves. From early youth Captain Granger followed the calling of the sea, having been in command of many well-known vessels, among which were the William, Miriam, Sisters, Beatrix and lastly the Commodore, the latter being then owned by Sir William Gray. The deceased gentleman was of a genial kindly disposition and had a friendly word for each, by whom his loss is keenly felt. On many occasions he was one of the crews of the Seaton Carew and West Hartlepool lifeboats, and assisted in many daring rescues of ship wrecked mariners. He funeral is fixed for Saturday afternoon.

Captain Granger was born in Robin Hoods Bay 12 Oct. 1822 he died in Hartlepool 6 Dec. 1893.

He married Mary Naylor 2 Aug 1845 at Monkwearmouth Parish Church.

Theo Granger told Ms Howells that Phatuel & Mary went to America after having seven children then came back and had seven more!
